Once again CAFOD invite us all to have a simple meal, and donate the money saved to support their work. So, we have a simple meal by choice, in solidarity with those that frequently do not have the luxury of choice. As a UK taxpayer, we can maximise our offerings by use of the Gift Aid Scheme. This will see CAFOD claiming an additional 25% on all donations that we make. The Gift Aid declaration is easily completed, only taking a few minutes, and can be found attached to the donation envelopes. These envelopes will be distributed across all church benches should you decide to use one, further they contain a brief introduction to CAFOD’s work. More detailed information can be obtained from cafod.org.uk/harvest or from the display in the entrance lobby. Just what could this extra 25% deliver. Fewer miles walked to collect safe water thus freeing up the children to attend school: more evacuation sites to protect against the aftereffects of volcanic disruption: or indeed more toilets from Sister Bernadette in Sierra Leone – what a relief.
