St Agatha’s Parish, (in collaboration with all parents of First Holy Communicants) runs a programme of preparation for children who belong to the parish and are over the age of 7 years (i.e. in year 3 or above in the primary school) who wish to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion

.
The Programme followed is called “I Belong” and parents must be fully committed to help their child complete each session in the home.  We have an excellent team of experienced catechists all of whom are CRB checked.  The main teaching sessions are held after school at 3.30p.m. until 4.30 p.m. and take place in the Church.

The First Communion Programme generally takes place between the middle of November and the beginning of May during which time Parents will also be asked to attend some evening meetings in order to be apprised of learning objectives to help them prepare their children for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.  The programme will commence with a meeting for parents and this will be followed on the next Monday afternoon by an introductory session for the children and an Inscription Service will take place on Sunday morning at the 10.30 a.m. Mass.  The children usually complete the second session before they break up for the Christmas holidays.

After the Christmas holidays the programme will continue and there will be a meeting for parents at 7.30p.m. on the first Tuesday after the Spring half term holidays.

The children are divided into two groups so that they can be carefully prepared to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. E.g. Group One will come to the Church at 3.30p.m. on the first Friday after the Spring half term holidays to rehearse in preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation the following day (on Saturday) at 10.30a.m. Group Two will rehearse one week later - i.e. attend for rehearsal on Friday at 3.30p.m. and will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation the following day at 10.30a.m.
